F1赛车“旨在到2030年实现零二氧化碳排放”

Formula One Group, which operates the F1, has announced a carbon-neutralization plan to zero carbon dioxide emissions for the entire series in 2030.

When it comes to motor sports, it is easy to think that cars and motorcycles are a sport with a strong image opposite to environmental protection, where cars and motorcycles run at high speeds with heavy drinking. However, it is also a place for research to create cutting-edge technologies suitable for the times.

Formula One Group shows that the innovative technologies accumulated while developing composite materials, energy innovation systems, safety systems, and F1 machines spread not only to the next vehicle developed, but also to the entire industry, and to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, hybrid power installed on the F1 machine. Using the device as an example, he showed his intention to lead innovation.

The power supply of the F1 machine is a combination of a turbocharged thermal energy recovery system MGU-H and a kinetic energy recovery system MGU-K with an engine called 1,600cc in-line 4-cylinder. It is the most efficient hybrid system in the world with the highest output of 900 to 1,000 horsepower. Of course, it doesn’t have the same durability as a commercially available vehicle, but it can be said that it can bring out the highest level of performance with the lowest carbon dioxide emissions.

However, as long as the gasoline engine is used as its main power source, it is not free from carbon dioxide emissions. FIA Chairman Jean Todd says the FIA has established an Environmental Sustainability Committee a few years ago and is conducting research on renewable racing fuels. In 2030, if the F1 machine was using an internal combustion engine, it could be thought that, for example, it would be using biofuel produced using renewable energy.

The F1 series, which is held in 20 countries around the world, must also take into account carbon dioxide emissions from air travel. In addition, the F1 team is a research institute with factories with hundreds to 1,000 people. The pressure and wind tunnel equipment that is essential for mechanical design of the carbon material consumes enormous energy, but Formula One Group said the plan would use highly efficient logistics, transport personnel, and even 100% renewable offices and factories. The circuit facility will also provide fans with a more environmentally friendly event to remove disposable plastic materials and recycle all waste. Related information can be found here .
