Amazon Transcribe Medical announced it as a speech recognition service specialized in medical information during the AWS annual event re: Invent, held by Amazon. To text doctor-patient conversations in real time and add them to an electronic medical record EHR.
Doctors introduced the Apple Watch in California last October as a system that can dictate the EHR. According to a 2017 survey of the University of Wisconsin and the American Medical Association, American physicians spend six hours per day inputting EHR. The purpose of Amazon Transcribe Medical is to reduce this time and increase the amount of time to face the patient.
Amazon’s healthcare industry service includes Amazon Comprehend Medical, a medical information-assisted version in 2018 that uses machine learning to detect and structure textual relationships. Transcribe Medical can also be used in conjunction with Comfree Hand Medical.
Having a record of medical information using AWS can, of course, be concerned about privacy concerns. In response, AWS AI vice president Matt Wood explained that Amazon Transcribe Medical is HIPAA compliant. Of course, compliance with HIPAA does not mean that it is safe, so it seems necessary to carefully examine what measures are being taken for actual data protection.
