There are reports that Google is collecting personal information, including medical records of tens of millions of people in 21 states in the United States. Of course, there is no illegality. In partnership with Ascension, a large US medical group.
According to reports, Google is working with Ascension on a project called Project Nightingale. Legally access medical information, including patient name and date of birth, test results, doctor’s diagnosis, and hospitalization records. At least 150 Google employees are said to have access to data on tens of millions of patients.
Google is using this data to develop new software that suggests how to treat patients through advanced AI and machine learning. At first glance, it may be possible to infringe on personal information, but it is said that it is done with legal judgment under US federal law.
The two sides jointly released a press release and stated that all operations are in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which is a law on health insurance good operability, explanation, and liability, and that strict security measures are in place. In addition, HIPAA is intended to allow hospitals to provide data to partner companies without patient and physician consent only when used to perform medical functions.
According to reports, Amazon and Apple are also focusing on the healthcare sector, but only Google is working with medical groups to receive data.
