Most of the works left by playwright William Shakespeare are known as collaborations with other authors. For example, Henry VIII, who portrayed the life of Henry VIII of England in the early 16th century, is pointed out as a joint work with Shakespeare’s successor, John Fletcher. However, it was not known how far Fletcher was involved.
By the way, Petr Plecháč, the Czech Literature Institute in Prague, used AI to investigate how much Fletcher wrote. AI studied the most frequently used words and the most frequently used verbal rhythm patterns in both Shakespeare and Fletcher to determine which part of Henry VIII was due to Shakespeare or where the Fletcher part. As a result, it was found that Fletcher was most likely involved in half.
The parts written by Fletcher appear in various parts, including the beginning, middle, and end of the chapter. There are also many places where the characteristics of both Shakespeare and Fletcher are mixed. However, it is possible that Shakespeare imitated Fletcher and Fletcher imitated Shakespeare, so further verification is required to further increase accuracy.
Advances in these techniques may lead to new discoveries, for example, confirming that a famous work was by several authors, or discovering that a work was actually a work written by a famous author under a different pseudonym.
