The sound shirt is a product developed by CuteCircuit, a fashion design company based in London, UK. It is a wearable shirt that allows the hearing impaired to experience sound through vibration.
Hearing impaired people can feel the vibrations through the touch of their entire body instead of hearing the sound. This product is equipped with a tactile sensor taking this into account. The sound is converted into data via software and then sent to a shirt equipped with 16 micro actuators, a vibrating device. Depending on the instrument and range, the bass is expressed by vibrating in the belly and the violin in the arms.
The shirt itself is a stretchy fabric material, and it is said that the sensor and actuator are not connected by wires. The pattern printed on the surface is not linked to the functional part. However, the ripples represent vibrations and sounds modulated at different frequencies, and the curves designate a data network. The charging itself uses USB Type C.
This product has a packaged product. It includes a Q antenna that enables voice broadcasting, 8 microphones, an audio converter for Mac or PC with software, and a sound shirt 2.0. You pay 1,500 pounds for each additional shirt. Related information can be found here .
